AgorIP make Swansea University history achieving RTTP status for fourth time

July 3, 2020

A member of staff at AgorIP has become the fourth person in Swansea University’s history to achieve Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) status.

Technology Transfer Manager, Berna Jones, achieved the international professional standard for knowledge transfer and commercialisation through her work within AgorIP and extensive experience outside the project.

AgorIP brings academics, clinicians and businesses together to pioneer research into cutting-edge technologies and drive commercial success with the support of Swansea University, and the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.

RTTP is the International Standard for the Professional Competence and Experience of Knowledge Exchange/Knowledge Transfer/Technology Transfer (KE/KT/TT) practitioners working in universities, industry and government labs.

There are 564 RTTP’s across the globe, spread over 40 countries in six continents.

To achieve RTTP status, candidates must be able to demonstrate that they have applied their knowledge and skills by leading a complex knowledge transfer project between the research base and business or community organisations.

Ms Jones has been working in Swansea University for 10 years, mainly involved with externally and European Union (EU) funded projects.

During her time at the University, she has worked as an Impact Officer, and managed the Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

She has also worked as a Knowledge Transfer Officer in A4B project funded by the Welsh Government and European Structural Funds.

She joined AgorIP from the University’s Research Engagement and Innovation Services Department in 2017.

Michael Smith, Senior Technology Transfer Manager said, “All of us at Agor IP are really pleased for Berna. Gaining this status is a reflection of the hard work and professionalism she gives to all aspects of her role.
